Land of Exile

Land of Exile

A paratrooper company’s journey into Africa and to an abandoned Egyptian village on the road to Ismailia (a kind of reverse Exodus), concludes when the village becomes a military outpost – and the outpost an allegory of the fate of us all, and the tragedy of new, modern-day Israel.

In September 2013, marking the fortieth anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, Land of Exile by Moshe Oren was published in installments on the Haaretz website, one chapter a day for three consecutive weeks – the first publication of a novel in installments in the Israeli printed and digital press since A Guest for the Night by S.Y. Agnon was published in Haaretz in 1938.
